Earth Vessels
These Earth Vessels are a useful object- half sculpture, half knick-knack pot. Inspired by my own work process, my first vessel was created to hold my rings while I worked with messy earth and clay. The design is simple and can be used for a multitude of purposes. Abstract cut- outs can be used to hold jewellery, a small candle, coins, or nothing at all. The pots are made from pure earth collected from construction sites across Brisbane. The process of ramming earth preserves each earth type in layers or groups that can be
easily identified. This collection features earth
from Kalangoor and Turrbal land (the traditional names for areas of Brisbane, Australia). The darker tone from Kalangoor, the lighter from Turrbal. These names are the true names of the regions I collect from as sovereignty was never ceded by our indigenous traditional owners. In my small way, I hope these vessels preserve the unique and beautiful characterics of the earth and document the place
in which it comes from. I choose to document the earth using traditional indigenous titles as the earth I collect does not relate to or have a connection with the colonial labels we have placed upon it.
